How are you? And the kittens?

Hello!

This is just a friendly reminder that Luna's kittens... YOUR (not so little anymore) babies, are old enough to be spayed/neutered. It is generally recommended that this be taken care of prior to their six month birthday (January 27th).

We love our Luna and all the other homeless animals that find their way to our farm and family! However, there are so many animals in need of good homes that helping to prevent "unplanned" pregnancies is extremely important. Having all of the kittens spayed/neutered will ensure that we aren't adding to this burden.

Even if you think your cat(s) will never be exposed to other cats that aren't spayed/neutered, it is still an important preventative health measure!

Okay, I'll now step down from my soapbox! ;)

Hope all is well and please let us know how your little one's are doing. Happy Holidays!

Take Care,
Kristen

Quick Reminder

A call from Bethany today reminded me that the kittens' 3rd round of shots are due! Everything you need should be included in the paperwork you have, but please let me know if you have any questions.

Also, at their last vet visit I wrote down each kitten's weight. I doubt this is something that you would need/want, but for what its worth...
Willow: 2lbs. 4oz.
Rosie: 2lbs. 6oz.
Malcolm: 2lbs. 8oz.
Olive: 2lbs. 8oz.
Spike: 3lbs.

Hope all's well!

THANK YOU!

Well, life in Prosser has certainly settled down to a normal (slow) speed again... We can't believe it was ever this quiet! On the other hand, I'm confident that things are a bit more "active" in the kittens' NEW homes! James and I had such a wonderful time rescuing Luna and raising our first batch of farm kittens. At the risk of sounding too sentimental, we really did learn a lot from the process and couldn't be more excited that each one is both happy and healthy.

If you'd like to send pictures/updates just email 3wilsonsvineyard@gmail.com and I'll post them here to share! We hope that your new addition(s) is/are bringing as much joy to you as they did to us. Please stay in touch!

Take Care,
Kristen & James

Day 57

Luna was spayed yesterday and the kittens made it through the day/night without any issues or complaints from the more "sensitive" (the boys) in the group!

The 2nd round of kitten shots are later today...

Day 56

Here's a picture of our little cleaning helper as she takes a ride in James' cargo pocket... Meanwhile the other 4 siblings are sleeping. Malcolm tried to keep up, but exhaustion overtook him.

Day 52

These two are the best of friends; they're practically joined at the hip. Luckily, they're going to the same home... Thanks Emily! :)

However, everyone else will be on their own soon... So, for the last week we've been trying to spend more time with each kitten individually, hoping they'll develop a bit more independence. :) Gracie will sleep on my chest while I read, Malcolm sits on James' shoulder and watches him work on the laptop, etc. The five of them still do EVERYTHING together, which is adorable, but I'm hoping this will help the transition into each of their new homes.

As always, let me know if you have any questions as you prepare for your new little one(s)!

Have a nice rest of the weekend.

Day 47

FINALLY, some pictures!!

*Kim- We tried to take some good shots of both gray kittens, but of the five they're hardest to capture on film... Even without a flash they're quite timid around the camera. Here are a few from this evening; their first time outside...

Day 47

SURPRISE!!

A few exciting things to catch everyone up...

First and foremost, the kittens all received clean bills of health from Dr. Mary earlier this week. Everyone got their first round of shots, weighed, nails clipped, etc. They were perfect angels and didn't make a peep. For some reason Luna loves going to the vet, so I guess they just followed her example. Given their size and excellent health Dr. Mary said it would be perfectly fine if they went to their new homes a bit early! (Of course, we're more than happy to keep them until each of you are ready for your new family member(s)).

*I have copies of vaccination paperwork for each of your records.

The other surprise, was something James and I have been suspicious about for some time. It turns out that one of the gray kittens is in fact a girl! :) Its hard to distinguish "certain parts" at such a young age, so we knew there was a chance of some confusion. Dr. Mary was able to confirm our suspicions once and for all.

We finally found the camera cord!
The latest pictures are uploading as I type this and will follow shortly! :)
Check back soon...

Day 38

There's only one thing more difficult than herding cats... Herding KITTENS. We can't open the door to "their room" anymore without having at least one escapee. Everyone was getting a bit restless, so I put all the kittens in a basket and carried them out to the entryway for a change of scenery. A baby gate and pocket door kept everyone corralled for about an hour before someone... learned how to climb! :) Back to the room we go...

P.S. I have some great pictures to add, but misplaced the camera cord.
Check back soon!

Day 28

King of the Mountain :)

Less room to sleep, means more room to play! They don't seem to mind the switch to a smaller bed, since they sleep in a big pile anyway.

James reinforced the "baby bumper," as the kittens contemplate their escape.

Bethany's kitten (she's still deciding on a name) is especially adept at climbing out of the kennel.

I love that she's literally inches from the opening, but still climbs over!

Luna is starting to wean the kittens, so we thought it fitting to give them their first taste of "solid" food this evening. I knew we could count on the orange one, who is bigger then his siblings, to take an interest in any available food... But the rest; they couldn't care less.

Apparently they start learning how to use a litter box at this age...
But nobody told them!

Day 28

4 WEEKS:

I don't want to say that we were outsmarted by 4-week-old kittens. But... Well... We were outsmarted by 4-week-old kittens!

I made a "baby bumper" out of cardboard and attached it to the inside walls of the kennel. I knew it wouldn't keep them in forever, but I thought it would buy us a week or so and keep little arms/legs from getting stuck between the bars. (Just as importantly, Luna could get away from them for some much needed respite).

It did keep them safe, but didn't keep them IN... I went in this morning to find the two girls out wandering the room. I put them back in and watched as they used their brothers to climb right back out. Once they're out the boys line up and watch the girls play. :)

Time for a plan B!

Day 27

This morning when I checked on the "kids" there were only 3 kittens in the box! The two girls had climbed out and were exploring the rest of the kennel. Needless to say, we're going to change their sleeping arrangements a bit...

Day 24

The 5 little ones are far enough along in their development that they're really pretty fun to watch... They were adorable before, but now they're adorable AND entertaining!

Poor Luna has become a kitten jungle-gym. (x5)

Occasionally we try to give her a break, but...

They have so much fun biting her legs...

Or pulling her fur...

And 10 seconds later, promptly falling asleep. :)

Day 21

3 WEEKS OLD: Their eyes are open, ears are up and (thankfully) their little claws are in. I was curious to see how much they weighed, so James and I put each one on the digital scale last night... The orange kitten is just over a pound and the others are around 14oz. Its hard to believe, but two years ago when I found Sam he was about twice their age and half their weight. Thank goodness we have Luna to do the mothering this time around!
